A Place to Find God

Dear Friends

On the 5th and 17th of this month we celebrate the dedication of our Church buildings. Although the Church is made up of people not bricks and mortar, our Church buildings are important to those who attend regularly and those who drop-in occasionally. So why come to St Mary Magdalene’s or St Thomas’?

We reflect our patrons. Although not specific to either Church I would like to think that we try to follow St Thomas and St Mary Magdalene in their faith in, and love of, God. Hopefully we are places where doubt is not condemned but accepted as a way to faith. Like the first Thomas we hope that life is a journey of discovery where resurrection is found in unexpected places. In the same way as Mary loved Jesus very much, she was the woman who anointed Him with precious oil, we hope to people from whom God’s lavish, generous, extravagant and endless love flows. (See St Mary Magdalene’s new banner to be blessed at the confirmation.)

A place to hide. Sometimes we need to retreat from the world and discover God in the quiet. Psalm 32 verse 7 says of God
