Engaging with the local community

There will be an open meeting on Wednesday 4th May, 7.30pm, at St Mary Magdalene’s at which Joan Callaghan will lead a discussion on how the Parish might engage more fully with the local community. The emphasis of the meeting will be on how use can be made of the internet to take advantage of the opportunities there like Facebook and Twitter and our web site. Joan will be using the technology and internet link at St Mary Magdalene’s to illustrate how it might be done. Hopefully this will lead to positive outcomes for Open Church, Friends of St Thomas’ and the Parish’s GAP programme, so please put the date in your diary.

We Pray For:

  • a spirit of discipline as we enter Passiontide, that through the power of the cross we may receive the victory.
  • mothers everywhere on this important day, especially those who won’t see their children. Bless all mothers who have lost children, through death or alienation
  • children and families on holiday at present, especially young people with exams approaching.
  • preparations for our Easter Experience: that many will come to St. Thomas’ and discover the real meaning of Easter.
  • our AGM next week: for willing volunteers to be PCC members and sidespeople.
  • St. Thomas’ School as we continue the recruitment process to find a new Head.
  • Libya and all troubled states: for world leaders, that they may have real wisdom in defending the innocent.
  • all people preparing to be married, especially Prince William and Kate Middleton, Aimee and Johnathan.
  • Japan as it tries to recover from earthquake, tsunami and radioactive leaks – for all who are suffering or worried about the future.
  • those in need of healing: Paul Stirrup, Jean Perkins, Elizabeth Parry, Margaret Dolan, Greta Norbury, Elsie Higham, Alan Cliffe, Tony Mason, Margaret Davies, Kate Allan and Alison Hatcher.
  • the dead and those who mourn their loss: for Kathleen Hind, Colin Wheeler, Gladys Dean, John Wright and Thomasina Jardine.
  • A.G.M.

Our AGM is on Sunday 10th April at 12 noon in the Church Hall

Before the Annual General Meeting make sure that your name is on the Church Electoral Roll. A new roll will be open from 13th March to 27th March. All regular members of our congregations should be on the roll, not least so that they can vote at our AGM but also to show your membership of the Anglican Communion.

Think and pray about joining the Parochial Church Council. We meet every other month and help the Church grow, look after our buildings, discuss national issues, eg women bishops, same sex marriages, etc., and generally run and lead the Churches. We need people with vision! Forms to join the PCC will be available after 13th March.

Read our Annual Report which will be published soon. This gives an over-view of all our activities and gives you an insight into how God is working amongst us in so many ways.

Did you know? That St Thomas' Church is open for visits every day from 10:00am to 12:00am. Feel free to pop in.
